Attention Central Florida poets: Mayor Buddy Dyer has announced a search to appoint the City of Orlando’s first Poet Laureate. The purpose of the position is to promote poetry and an appreciation of poetry among residents and to inspire an emerging generation of literary artists and readers of literature.
The Poet Laureate is a ceremonial appointment, and the selected poet will serve as a prominent fixture in the City’s cultural and literary arts community, presenting original works of poetry at City events and schools. The position includes a modest honorarium.

*IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY UPDATE: Mayor Dyer has broadened our search to include applicants who “live or work” in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard, Volusia or Lake County and meet all of the other eligibility guidelines.
